Fire is incredibly difficult to paint, translucent and constantly moving. It was inspired by being caught in a bush fire in Africa.

Arriving on an African border crossing at night is never a good idea. The customs house was closed but whilst waiting to locate someone, I decided this starry scene would be my next painting. It makes me nostalgic for Africa.
